Friday Friday Friday! Not Monday! Friday!
» David Bowie [among others] Is Very Disappointed In You
[Self-explanatory. And briefly funny]
Sent in by Courteney in BC. (Hi Courteney!)
Insane! Have a monkey recite your message for you. Great use of technology for ridiculous means.
» Tick Tock Toys
Features a rather interesting blog, and a huge archive of kid-related foods. Old cereal packaging, cereal boxes, fast food packaging, you name it. Exhaustive. Insane.
» MetaMath Music
“Mathematical Proofs Set to Music”. This is what happens when a math wiz attempts to turn mathematical formulae into music. Some of it is actually quite good! Reminds me a bit of Steve Reich.
Happy Friday Friday Friday!
Myyyyy bologne has a first name / it’s F-R-I-D-A-Y… [whistle!]
Here we go:
» Postcards I’ve Made
Someone named “Jon” from San Francisco is a pretty odd little artist. He made these odd little postcards, which made me laugh.
» Gibby’s Gameroom
A collection of videogames spanning “20+ years.” I own a lot of games… butyikes!
[Caution: poor design.]
» Oreo Sculptures
For those of you who work on the Kraft website, you may want to show them these. They would then be called “recipes”. 🙂
» Pierced Eyeglasses
Sent in by Ana from San Diego. Kinda eewww and kinda kewl. The site appears to still be under construction, but the idea is definitely real.
Have a great weekend, Friday-listers!
Friday! And in my country it’s also a long weekend. Woo!
» Dead People Server
Kind of an odd idea but I could see the need for it. 🙂
» 10 Things I Hate About Commandments
Hysterically funny (to me at least) trailer mashup. If you liked the one for the Shining (“Shining”), you’ll probably like this one.
» Blogging The Bible
Hey speaking of the Bible…
Slate’s David Plotz reads the Bible for the first time as an adult. “You’d think God would know exactly what He’s doing, but He doesn’t. He’s a tinkerer. ” Hilarious.
[Note: I am not religious]
» Micro Traffic Simulator
Weird but fascinating. Requires Java.
Haaaaaaappy Friday Tooo Yoooou!
Holy crap is it ever Friday in here…
» Fantastic Paperwork
From Korea. And you think YOU have a lot of free time… 🙂 These are really beautifully done, and often quite humerous. And I’m not telling you what they are.
» Gum Blondes
Portraits of celebrities made from chewed gum. (Though you would never know it.)
» Vintage Trailers
Exactly what it says. Check out the styling on the 1930’s and 40’s models. Kinda neat.
Given the sheer numbers of people I know who have recently had babies: here’s a site that lets you see images through their “eyes.” It features a utility where you can upload a photo, choose a baby age, and it processes the image. Kinda neat!
Whuhoo! Friday! Woo!
Have a good weekend folkses.
Woo! [punches air!]
Enter a word, and this app begins loading random audio and imagery which it thinks matches the word. Try “sing” for a weird / funny example. It uses Google for the results.
CAUTION: Possibly not safe for work (NSFW) due to the random nature of what it pulls in.
» The Music Animation Machine
Some craaaazy stuff on here. It’s essentially several styles of “visualizing” music / melody / rhythm. Some of the pieces sound hilarious (check out the “Frog Round” in the Watch and Listen section.)
» Mariano Sardon: Books Of Sand
Very cool. Hard to explain. Worth a look.
» Dollar Times: Inflation Calculator
Calculate what your salary was worth in previous years / decades / centuries.
This week brings a mostly artsy Friday Links list. Slightly earlier than usual as I am headed off for the weekend. (Yay!)
» Branislav Kropilak: Garages
This one is making the rounds. But rightly so. Some quite beautiful photographs of garages. His sense of composition is pretty awesome.
Some of you creative types have likely already seen his work (especially those of you lucky enough to live in the UK.) His work is stellar. He elevates graffitti to a real artform.
» Kazuhiko Kobayashi: Gate Vision
Winner of the 2005 Japan Media Arts Festival. Kaleidescopic video of vehicular motion. Difficult to describe and quite beautiful.
» Paper Forest Blog
Check out new origami / glued paper model layouts every day so you can “build” your own forest.
Have a faaaaabulous weekend!
Ohhhhhhhh Friday! Yes!
MAME software (arcade emulation) on an iPod Nano, complete with handcrafted cabinet. Yes… I am a nerd…
» Chicago’s Damen Station, created with Photoshop and Illustrator
Photorealistic images of this Chicago transit station, created solely by hand using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator (but no camera.) Compare the first image to this photograph.
» National High-Five Day
Which was actually yesterday. (Oops!)
So a happy belated National High-Five day!
Have a great Friday everyone.
This is a special Good Friday link listing, because in my country tomorrow is a holiday. Early posting for everyone else who has to work on Friday. 🙂
» link to blog entry
I can’t describe this adequately but check it out. What can I say? This made me laugh.
» IBM’s “Seeds of Imagination” installation
You plant a seed, then talk to your plant by typing into a text box. Positive words get recognized and alter how your plant grows. Check out the gallery too. Some very beautiful abstract pieces in there.
» Pimp My Snack!
Soooo… is there anything left that cannot be “pimped”?
A humorous take on photos from the early days of computing. Note: Lileks also hosts the Gallery of Regrettable Food, previously mentioned here…
Happy Easter Weekend, Fridaypeople!
» The Chevy Apprentice Ad Creator
“Not exactly going as planned…” Indeed. Read the comments for numerous examples. One I particularly liked: right here.
» Rapatronic Nuclear Photographs
This site describes the cameras used to photograph nuclear detonations. Fascinating (if you’re a camera nerd like me.) The other links following that article are also pretty interesting.
» The Most Annoying Video Ever?
“What happens when a man covered in microphones walks into a room covered with speakers? Feedback. Lots of it.” [You’ll want to watch out for the volume on this one.]
Cabspotting traces San Francisco’s taxi cabs as they travel throughout the Bay Area.
Have a most excellent weekend.
Oh man: at last! Friday!
» 3D Painted Rooms
I think if I lived in any of these I’d go a little nutty. Pretty unique ideas though.
» Urville: The Imaginary City
Gilles Trehin is an autistic 28-year-old. Since the age of 12, he has been designing an imaginary city called Urville. This is amazing.
» A Wedding Toast By Katie Holmes’s Former Best Friend
On McSweeneys.net. McSweeney’s = funny.
Never mind Ms. Stefani and her Hirajuku Girls(tm), this is apparently the real deal in Japan these days. Eeeeyikes! I did witness this when I visited, but it’s even more out of whack this year. Check out the eyes!
Happy Day, Friday Peoples!
