Aug. 11th, 2006

And I get to take a vacation this week. So no Friday links next week. (Sorry folks.)

Heeeeeere we are!

» Mammatus Clouds

Sent in by Janet. I actually lost track of this one. These are a weird phenomenon that usually appear just after an intense hurricane. They look fake, but they are not.

» Balls!

Addictive! And kinda funny. And kinda annoying. But fun!

» Hidden Exposures

Yes, more artiness. Also a nice randomized user experience. Kind of obscure but I liked it.

» Maritess vs. the SuperFriends!

Maritess is their housekeeper.

Enjoy! Have a great weekend (and week.)

Aug. 4th, 2006

Holy Friday, Batman!

» Crash Test Olympics!

THOROUGHLY addictive.

This is a site that has lovingly archived all musical references within TV commercials. You can search for the company whose ad you saw, and it will show you which songs were played on the selected ads. Brilliant idea (in my opinion at least.)

» Scrambled Hacks

Very, very hard to describe. A device which re-sequences video based on input provided via microphone. The demo video is long but certainly worth the look. I first saw this in December but it’s making the rounds again. So I figure: Couldn’t hurt!

» Michael Kenna

A very dramatic landscape photographer from the UK.

Hooray for Fridayyyy! (And in my country it’s actually a long weekend. 🙂 )

Have a great weekend Friday peoples!

Jul. 28th, 2006

FrrrrrrIDAY! And stuff.

Here goes!

» Middle East Buddy List / Cheat Sheet

If you’re as bewildered as I have been lately about who likes who / who hates who in the middle east, here’s a fairly brilliant chart that describes several middle-east factions and their relationships to each other.

» Jan von Holleben: Dreams of Flying

Jan von Holleben is a Dutch photographer living in london. He’s become internationally famous mostly via online views of his online gallery. Other work is available on the site but these are some of the most creative (in my opinion.)

» A Tinkertoy Computer

Among other things, it plays tic-tac-toe. It takes no electricity and is hand-cranked by a human to operate.
Image available here:

» Live Ship Locations

Verrry nerdy. Similar to the air traffic controller viewer. (see archive) This shows the current location of all the known / registered ocean-going vessels in the world.

Happy Friday wherever you are. Stay cool this weekend. (I mean literally cool.)

Jul. 21st, 2006

Huzzah! Friday at last.

» Zidane Headbutt Game

Sent in by Kevin. That domain name does not lie. 🙂 Now I have an alternative outlet for anytime someone says something about my mother. 🙂

» Sweet Jesus I Hate Bill O’Reilly Dot Com

Extremely self-explanatory. I bought the book!

» “Live” Space Invaders

Note: The site is in French. Totally worth the looksee. Looks like something Michel Gondry (also French — COINCIDENCE?????) would come up with.

» Concise Map of Springfield

Created in 2001. This is extremely detailed. So much so that it’s actually been added to the Harvard Map Collection.

Bonus Link!

» The Fabulous George Bush / Tony Blair Open Mic Video

Extra bonus link for this week.

Have a fabulous Friday (and weekend.)

Jul. 14th, 2006

Ahhhh summer. 🙂

Okay! Here goes!

» Four Second Fury!

Any of those of you who’ve played Wario Warez will probably kick ass at these. Frantic gameplay! Lots of variety though.

» Scott Radke’s Creepy Marionettes

[Self explanatory… {{shudder}}…]

» Fun Things To Do With Weiners (?!)

[Note: Japanese]
Insane! Complete with instructions! Only in Japan…

» Headacher!

[also self explanatory]

Thanx again Friday people!

Jul. 7th, 2006

» PsyOp: Coke Ad(UK)

Those of you in the digital arts fields probably already saw this but if not: you should. 🙂
PsyOp [] also made the new MTV HD Station ID’s.

[P.S. Yeah I know: it’s Coke. Megacorporation and all that… Grrrrr…]

» 3D Pong

I have sent this to some of you individually in the past, so apologies for repeating. This is insanely addictive. Sadly it does not keep your high score (or allow you to restart.) Still! If they had this for PSP I’d be playing it a lot.[hint!]

» The Broth

A mosaic, created in realtime, by Internet users around the world. It also features a meagre but interesting gallery.

» Facsimile Books

Accurate reprints and constructed binding of ancient texts (11th to 18th century volumes are represented here.) An insane amount of work goes into making these. They’re not cheap but they look fantastic! Much more interesting than the BBC’s “virtual” ancient books of a few years past.

Happy Friday, Friday listers!

Jun. 30th, 2006

Wicked! Friday! Excellent! This is gonna RULE!

It’s Canada Day this weekend (July 1st). That’s Canada’s version of Independence Day. It’s a hoot, “eh?” 😉

So to begin: some links about what others have learned about Canada:

» An American Tourist

» A Malaysian Immigrant (formerly a doctor)

» The Zen Limey

» A Grade 7 Geography Class (unknown US location) from 2004

And now two more links for the rest of you Friday folks:

» Michael Jackson: NES Famicom!

Hosted in Japan, a bit slow to download but somewhat worth it. Michael Jackson appears in a wide variety of old Nintendo games. Kinda… odd. Must have taken a while to do. Awesome music (?)

» Princeton University: Art Of Science, 2006

Rather beautiful imagery of scientific phenomena. Also see the 2005 gallery.

Happy Canada Day / Independence Day Weekend!

Jun. 23rd, 2006

Let’s dive in shall we?

» Cow Abductions

Sent in by Karem. Hilarious.

» Toynbee Tiles

Kinda hard to explain (and forgive the lack of layout.) A series of tiles have begun showing up on pavements in Philadelphia. “TOYNBEE IDEA IN KUbricK’s 2001 RESURRECT DEAD ON PLANET JUPiTER”. Definitely an interesting read. [See also:]

» Talking Head Tables

“Our Talking Head Tables are absolutely hilarious.” Ohhh I just bet they are. [Please note: David Byrne does not make an appearance.] Yikes!

» Pimp My Doll!

Crrrrazy Italian site about… uh… dolls! Some cool U.N.K.L.E.-style designs going on.

Bonus Link!

» Connie Chung’s Farewell Insanity

Insane bonus link for those of you who did not see it:

Yyyyyyyeah. Well… thanx for THAT, Ms. Chung. Oy…

Happy First Friday of Summer!

Jun. 16th, 2006

Hooooooboy! FRIDAY!

» Something Awful: Misspelled Movies (part 2):

I heart Something Awful! They make my day.

» Top 10 Strangest / Coolest Mini Devices

I won’t spoil #1 for you but it’s impressive.

» Fake Or Foto?

You might be surprised…
[Sent in by Bonnie D. Thanx Bonnie!]

» Machinima

[Sent in by Frank in Toronto.]
Ordinary gamer folks create short films using footage they “act” within videogames.
Red vs. Blue is a very popular subset of this, creating how-to videos (among other things) using characters in Halo. It’s funnier than it sounds.

Haaaaaaaaappy Friiiiiiidayyyyyyyyyy! [echo]
